COMIC FX BOOK

September 12, 2016Twitter

It's taken me a year, but I've finally completed an update with seven new comics, featuring 250 new sound effects, giving us a total of 1,324.

What took so long? The usual excuses. But I also decided to shift gears a bit and --- after nothing but Marvel -- I wanted to include some books from DC. I also went back in time a bit from the Silver Age to the end of the Golden Age. I chose More Fun Comics #101-107, which feature the first appearances of Superboy, the idea being they are also the first appearances of a superhero on Earth-One, and I thought I would go on from there through the Atom Age.

The ironic part is, if I'd just done the Superboy stories I could have finished in a day. But I was determined to do the whole books (Earth-Two Green Arrow, Johnny Quick, Aquaman!) and there were a ton of sound effects from the other stories that took me a super long time to sort through. And many of them were pretty visually dull, sapping my desire to get back to work. But there are also some real gems.

I also spent considerable time changing some things behind the scenes with tags, most notably removing characters who are seen in the panel but don't participate in creating the sound effect. This should allow me to categorize a litte faster in the future.

I'll be returning to 1963 Marvel next, and with any luck there will be more than one update a year!
